Manager Handbook

Rangers Managers’ Duties

Primary role is communication. Communication with and between coaches, parents, and directors.

  • Every coach is different, and every team is different. Some coaches enjoy interaction with parents and some don’t. It is up to the manager to figure this out and act accordingly. Discuss with the coach how much he/she plans to communicate and what he/she would like you to handle.
  • You cannot communicate too much nor in too many ways. It’s better to over-communicate than for parents to be confused or uninformed.

In general, all managers are expected to:

Prior to start of season:

  • Get player names & parent contact info from director
    • Start work on team directory (see Joe’s example) including team member, parents’ names, player number, and photo
  • Send initial email to team contacts
    • Introduce yourself and explain role - you are the parents’ go-to person for most questions. If you can’t answer, you should be able to direct them to the correct person to ask.
    • Ask if any contacts need to be added to communication (additional parent, team member, etc.)
  • Ask all team members about dates they cannot play

- attend the ISL zoom scheduling meeting for your team (if you can’t attend, you have to  find a replacement - either coach, director, or another manager)

- work with other team coaches to resolve game date conflicts

- send final game schedule to team

(If you end up without enough players or subs for a particular game, work with your coach & team members to find subs.)

  • Get Team Binder, First Aid Kit, Player cards (or print them yourself??), referee money from director

First week of season:

  • Schedule parent meeting with coach
  • Schedule team building activity - after practice? Cook-out? Ask for parent help, volunteers

Weekly throughout the season:

  • Send communication via email, text, League Apps?
  • Include practice dates, times, location
  • Include game date, time, location with address, and uniform color
  • Include any additional information which may include tournament information, picture days, field maintenance days, fundraiser opportunities, other things coming from the directors or coaches.

For each game:

  • Print 3 copies of game card (remove any players not attending, add any subs)
  • Bring binder, player cards, First Aid kit, money for referees (which is how much $?)
  • For home games, put out corner flags before game and remove after

Game Day Procedure:

You'll need to print three (3) copies of your game card before each game.  Instructions are on the Ranger website under the "manager" tab or below Link #2.

For each game you'll need to bring the game card (3), the player cards and the referee money. You should also have your official roster, medical release forms and first aid kit but hopefully you don’t need any of those.

The corner flags are in the area behind the port-a-johns.  Please return at the end of your game unless there is another game after yours that day.

After the game and within 48 hours you need to submit the game score.  The instructions are at the top of each game card.  There is a website link or you can scan the QR code in the upper right of the card.  You’ll need the Event Code, Event PIN and Game Number all of which are on the Game Card.
